Keynote: Residential DC microgrid protection methods.

Abstract of lecture: The topic of the proposed keynote lecture is the protection of residential DC microgrids against short circuits, overloads, leakage currents, and over- and undervoltages. The target groups of the lecture are scientists, students, and engineers who develop, plan, and build such DC microgrids or their protection devices. During the lecture, an overview of residential DC microgrids, the parameters of such power grids and the standards applied to these grids will be given. Then, the focus will be shifted to the physical processes that occur in these grids in the event of fault situations such as residual current faults, short circuits, and effects of the short-circuit interruptions. The influence of various microgrid parameters like distance of the short circuit from power supplies and protective devices on such processes will be presented with simulation results and exemplary calculations. The second part of lecture is an overview of various protection devices used in residential DC networks, various aspects of their use, implementation, development, and the differences in the application of such devices in AC and DC microgrids.
